Just about everyone has heard of BOTOX®. It is quickly becoming one of the most popular cosmetic treatments. In fact, BOTOX® treatments have become the common solution when it comes to wrinkle reduction treatment in the United States. BOTOX® can be an ideal alternative to surgical procedures, but it is not the perfect solution for everyone. There are some things to consider when determining whether or not you are a good candidate for BOTOX® treatments. At Youthfill MD, we can help you determine whether this treatment option is right for you.
How is My Candidacy for BOTOX® Determined?
As with all cosmetic treatments, BOTOX® treatments begin with a medical evaluation by our medical team. During this initial evaluation, your skin, your medical history, your allergies, and any other health issues you may have are reviewed. This information is used to give our physician a complete understanding of your health situation. They will use this information to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for treatment.
A good candidate for BOTOX® treatment is typically between the ages of 18 and 65 years old. As with all cosmetic procedures, the better health the person is in, the better outcome they can expect from the treatment. In addition to having good physical health, it is also important that a candidate for BOTOX® have good mental and emotional health. BOTOX® candidates will only be happy with the procedure if they walk into the procedure with a clear understanding of what this treatment can and cannot do for them. In addition to realistic expectations, a BOTOX® candidate should have moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles – not all visible signs of aging can be effectively treated with this injectable.
What are Dynamic Wrinkles?
You may be asking yourself, do I have dynamic wrinkles? Dynamic wrinkles are the wrinkles that manifest as a result of your facial muscles contracting underneath your skin. When these muscles contract, your skin bunches together and creates the lines and wrinkles you see on your face. Dynamic wrinkles are seen in the parts of your face that express the most emotion. Dynamic wrinkles are seen when you laugh, when you cry, when you smile, or when you grimace.
BOTOX® is designed to fix dynamic wrinkles by getting targeted facial muscles to relax. This allows the fine lines caused by facial contractions to disappear. There is a difference between dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles. Static wrinkles are created when the collagen and hyaluronic acid in your skin breakdown and cause wrinkles that are visible when the face is at rest. These are typically addressed with other treatments such as dermal fillers.
BOTOX® is a very powerful tool. It can create dynamic results for individuals who are the ideal candidates for its use. There are certain medical conditions that may require further evaluation before this treatment is approved.
