What is Asclera® Sclerotherapy?
Asclera® Sclerotherapy is a fast, easy, and effective way to get rid of spider and reticular veins. During treatment, Asclera® is injected into problem veins. Over time, this solution collapses and destroys these veins, removing them from the body non-invasively. Following treatment, 87% of patients report being satisfied or very satisfied with the results of their Asclera® Sclerotherapy.
How Does it Work?
During sclerotherapy, a sclerosing agent is injected into the spider or reticular vein that is causing medical or aesthetic distress. In the case of Asclera® Sclerotherapy, this sclerosing agent is always the medication Asclera®.
Once injected into a vein, the sclerosing agent begins to cause blood platelets and other cellular material to attach to the lining of the blood vessel, damaging it over time. Eventually, this blockage becomes so significant that it causes the blood vessel to collapse altogether. Once this blood vessel fully collapses, it is replaced by the body with other tissue, completely eliminating the treated vein.
What is an Asclera® Sclerotherapy Treatment Like?
Each Asclera® Sclerotherapy treatment session can last anywhere between 15-45 minutes depending on the number and size of the veins being treated. Following the injection process, compression stocking or support hose are secured on the patient. These must be worn continuously for the first 2-3 days after treatment. After 2-3 days, they should be worn during the daytime for 2-3 weeks. In some cases, additional treatment sessions may be necessary. These are usually undergone 1-2 weeks after the initial treatment session.
Am I a Candidate for this Treatment?
Nearly anyone interested in removing spider or reticular veins is a potential candidate for Asclera® Sclerotherapy. This procedure cannot be undergone by individuals that:
- Are pregnant or nursing
- Have an allergy to polidocanol
- Have an acute vein or blood clotting disease
Asclera® Sclerotherapy works best for patients that have spider veins that are less than one millimeter in diameter, or varicose veins that are between one and three millimeters in diameter.
